Kings of Leon
Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon, is a feature length documentary that captures the band's genesis and follows their transition from strict religious childhood to rock n roll super stardom.
The film was selected for Tribeca Film Festival 2011 and will be premiering on April 21, but our relationship with the band began way back in 2008, in the months leading up to their seminal album, Only By The Night…
At the time they needed an unconventional approach to marketing their album, Only By The Night, and decided that nothing short of a game-changer would do. Phear Creative partnered with Kings of Leon to launch an online viral marketing program that gave fans a rare glimpse into the personalities behind the band.
The resulting program, "Only By the Night: The Home Movies," a series of 23 online clips leading up to the album's release on September 23rd, 2008, was as successful as any viral campaign could hope to be. After the first clip launched on September 1st, the band received over 50,000 online views a day (the 'Home Movies' have had over 6 million views to date), the band's youtube channel hit number 1 during the campaign, and today their channel remains in the top 40. Only By The Night has sold over 2 million copies thus far. This success would mark the beginning of a trusted partnership between the band and Phear Creative.
When it was time to do a video for the new single ‘Pyro’, the band once again turned to Phear Creative to do something special for this catchy, but lonesome track from their new record. The resulting video that Phear Creative produced and directed was a thoughtful and artistic meditation, and fans responded enthusiastically, cheering on their artistic integrity, and new vision.
MTV.com said this about the video:
“[The] mass ascension manages to put a slightly affirming — not to mention incredibly artistic — capper on the video. "Pyro" is a solemn, sometimes grotesque thing, but there's a strange beauty to it too. Like a diamond broche on a barroom floor, it sparkles despite all the grime it's coated in. It may not be the easiest thing to watch, but it's ultimately rewarding — chill-inducingly so. Drink up.”
